Studio Desk One
University of Oregon Department of Architecture
Collaborative studio life has always been the center of design education at the University of Oregon. In the early days the tools were simple, and the modest wooden desks worked well. Students altered the desks to provide storage and privacy. Constructed, remodeled and demolished regularly, the caves of wood and paper began to isolate students from one another. After 80 years, the old desks needed to be rethought.
The solution is simple and direct: a durable desk which is flexible and efficient. The new desks are designed and constructed for intense use. With over 600 produced to date, they promote an open, shared studio setting and provide very effective individual work stations.
